We suggest, by looking at $pp$ and π⁺p elastic data, that the evidence for the parton prediction dσdt~s^-nf(θ) is not as convincing as is generally supposed. We also draw attention to the presence of well-defined structures in (dσdt)_θ; these may well reveal a strong component of conventional coherent scattering effects, even at large angles.
