Scientific journals are integral to the dissemination and validation of academic knowledge. Within the framework of neoliberal globalisation, where English has become the lingua franca, British and North American journals are often regarded as international while simultaneously becoming objects of commodification. Adopting a perspective shaped from the Southern Cone, this paper engages with ongoing debates in geography concerning the need to discuss the criteria by which a publication is defined as international. Firstly, it identifies several Anglo‐American initiatives aimed at incorporating voices from diverse sites of enunciation. It then outlines key challenges involved in the construction of journals that might genuinely embrace multiple academic worlds.
