A new species of Eriocaulon, E. embatense, is described and illustrated from the coastal plains adjoining the southern Western Ghats in Keralam, India. The new species is morphologically allied to E. parviflorum (Fyson) R.Ansari & N.P.Balakr. and E. sharmae R.Ansari & N.P.Balakr., but is readily distinguished by differences in their receptacle morphology, size of the involucral bracts, gland‐like structures at the center of the male flower, female sepal characteristics, and seed surface ornamentation. A detailed description, photo plates showing floral parts including seed micromorphology and notes on distribution and habitat are provided.
