Questions regarding observability on the basis of the observed measurement data from a finite number of sensors are discussed for the distributed-parameter systems described by linear partial differential equations of parabolic type. Necessary and sufficient conditions for observability are presented. We obtain a sufficient condition for continuous dependence of a state of the system upon the observation, Location of sensors for ensuring observability and continuity are discussed for several examples.
