Robotic port-access repair offers a viable surgical approach for post-endocarditis severe tricuspid regurgitation.
Why the study?
Surgery is indicated for tricuspid-valve infective endocarditis with severe regurgitation or leaflet destruction, and repair is favored in young patients with substance-use disorder to reduce reinfection and reoperation risk after prosthetic implantation.
Case Report
Highlights the feasibility of a port-access robotic approach for tricuspid valve repair in the setting of healed infective endocarditis with severe regurgitation.
The risk of tricuspid-valve infective endocarditis (TVIE) is strongly associated with intravenous drug use and Staphylococcus aureus infection. Surgery is indicated for persistent sepsis, recurrent septic pulmonary emboli, severe regurgitation, or extensive leaflet destruction.1 Repair is favored when feasible, especially in young patients with substance-use disorder who face recurrent bacteremia, reinfection, and reoperation risk after prosthetic implantation.1 We report port-access robotic tricuspid repair for healed methicillin-sensitive S aureus endocarditis with posterior leaflet perforation and severe regurgitation.

Asif et al. (2026) conducted a case report in healed methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis with posterior leaflet perforation and severe tricuspid regurgitation. Port-access robotic tricuspid repair was evaluated. Port-access robotic tricuspid repair is presented as a viable surgical approach for healed methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis with severe regurgitation.
