Do anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich foods and extracts reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults?
This study protocol outlines a planned systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of anthocyanins in reducing blood pressure among adults.
Protocol for anthocyanin BP meta-analysis leaves current recommendations unchanged; will extend evidence synthesis upon completion.
Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials examining the effect of anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich foods and extracts on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults. Searches were conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE and Cochrane CENTRAL on 29 July 2026, covering 1995 to 2026. Screening and risk-of-bias assessment (Cochrane RoB 2.0) were performed independently by three reviewers. This protocol was finalised before any outcome data were extracted.

Trejo-Rodríguez et al. (2026) conducted a systematic review in Blood pressure. Anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich foods and extracts was evaluated on Systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Anthocyanins and anthocyanin-rich foods and extracts will be evaluated for their effect on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults according to this systematic review protocol.
