Objective: Poor perioperative glycaemic control in patients living with diabetes mellitus is associated with increased postoperative complications; therefore, national perioperative guidance recommends assessment of glycaemic control before elective surgery, with a target haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) <69 mmol/mol. This project aimed to increase the proportion of patients with diabetes mellitus undergoing elective P3/P4 surgery with an HbA1c measurement within 3 months of their Central Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (CPOAC) appointment to 90% by March 2026.
