Background: Preoperative assessment (POA) is a critical step in preparing patients for surgery by ensuring fitness for anaesthesia and preventing short-notice cancellations. At New Cross Hospital, foundation yr 2 (F2) doctors conduct the POA for patients listed for ophthalmic procedures under general anaesthesia (GA). F2 doctors additionally refer high-risk patients for a consultant-led anaesthetist clinic review. Understanding the causes and frequency of postponements after POA is crucial to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
