Presented at CognitionX Emirates 2026 (Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Center, Dubai, UAE), Map Before Machine™: Engineering Pre-AI Sense-Making in Copilot Systems addresses a critical vulnerability in Human-AI Interaction: because every AI interface opens directly into a prompt box, users bypass independent reasoning, demonstrating that automation bias is a problem of sequence rather than trust, with the most skilled AI users proving the worst at spotting AI errors (Fernandes et al., 2025). To resolve this, Devika Toprani (Toprani, 2026) introduces four proprietary, patent-pending architectures: (1) the Somagraphic Learning™ Framework, a human-first, 3-stage visual-cognitive sequence (Attempt → Map → Refine) that anchors human reasoning before AI enters at the Refine stage. (2) Shape-Emotion Grammar™, an inclusive, pre-verbal structure utilizing shapes, motion, and perceptual salience to build conceptual meaning before language or AI arrives for multilingual, neurodiverse, ELL, and visual thinkers. (3) Map Before Machine™, an analog-first AI literacy mechanism requiring users to generate a timestamped cognitive artifact prior to AI engagement, deployable via Pen & Paper thinking cards, LMS-ready modules, or a software-level Pre-AI UX Onboarding Layer (Pre-AI Prompt Gateway). (4) Somatic AI Literacy™, the capacity to establish embodied conceptual orientation before AI interaction begins. Built via Somagraphic Learning™ in April 2026. Absent from AI literacy frameworks, UNESCO, CSTA, OECD, ISTE, U.S. Department of Labor, etc, which focus on post-AI interaction, as of April 2026. All framework IP and copyright remain exclusively with Devika Toprani. Licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Patent-Pending. Any integration into software platforms, AI onboarding UIs, or enterprise/institutional training curricula requires a commercial license.
