This single-center retrospective observational study included 28 patients with surgical conditions and confirmed COVID-19. The small sample size limited the statistical power to detect a significant reduction in mortality among patients treated with higher-dose colchicine; nevertheless, a trend toward lower mortality was observed. Colchicine treatment was associated with a statistically significant reduction in serum ferritin levels, accompanied by trends toward lower CRP and D-dimer levels. These findings are consistent with the proposed anti-inflammatory effects of colchicine and with previous reports suggesting that earlier administration and higher therapeutic doses may be associated with improved clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19.
