The Voynich Manuscript (Beinecke MS 408) is traditionally studied as an undeciphered text. This paper proposes a functional hypothesis: the manuscript was designed as a hazing device (c. 1420-1430) for medical or scholarly initiates. We argue that incomprehensibility was the intended function, not a failure of transmission. Structural analysis suggests deliberate resistance to interpretation, consistent with ritualized novice-testing in late medieval universities.
