The paper presents an approximate continuum-based analysis for end-bearing pile foundations subjected to dynamic lateral loads. In the analysis, the soil displacement fields in the radial and tangential directions are described as a product of separable functions. The Extended Hamilton’s Prinicple is employed to derive the differential equations describing the pile and soil motions, which are solved analytically in an iterative algorithm. The degree of accuracy of the analysis is rigorously ensured with existing analyses in the literature for hinged and fixed pile-base condition. Furthermore a parametric analyses is perfmormed from which it is found that the difference in the pile-head response between the hinged and fixed end-condition reduces with increasing pile slenderness ratio. The hinged and fixed end condition produces nearly identical results for pile-soil stiffness ratio £ 50, 100, 300, 1000, and 2500 for pile slenderness ratio equal to 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40, respectively.
