Summary Statement This study identified two functionally redundant REC8 homologs ( MtREC8a and MtREC8b ) in the model legume Medicago truncatula ; single mutants are fertile while double mutants are sterile with nonviable pollen, confirming conserved REC8 function and laying the foundation for developing MiMe technology in M. truncatula and related legumes.
