Background Epstein-Barr virus-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the maxilla is rare. Case presentation A 90-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with numbness and swelling in the right maxillary region extending to the lip. He underwent computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging for pretreatment. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the lesions revealed a high-signal intensity area, and the apparent diffusion coefficient value of the lesion was 0.61 × 10 − 3 mm 2 s − 1 . A partial biopsy of the maxillary region was performed. A diagnosis of Epstein-Barr virus-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was made on the basis of immunohistochemical staining. The patient was transferred to another hospital for treatment. Conclusion This case demonstrates that diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and immunohistochemistry may be essential for diagnosing Epstein-Barr virus-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
