For astronomers to re-use spectral photographic plates, the plates must be findable and accessible. The Science Explorer (SciX) offers two ways of exposing photographic plate data to the research community: curated bibliographies, also known as public libraries, and data links from papers that use such resources. The International Glass Plates Group (IGPG) is creating and curating two bibliographies: one for articles that use photographic plate data and one for articles about photographic plates as historical or cultural artifacts. Additional contributions from the community are welcome. SciX has implemented links among papers, plates, and logbooks from the Harvard Plate Stacks. The team is available to help other collections add digital representations of their plates at whatever level is practical.SciX is the expansion of the Astrophysics Data System (ADS) to serve heliophysics, planetary science, Earth science, and NASA-funded research in the biological and physical sciences as well as astrophysics.
