A new linking theorem with applications

In this article, we revisit a classical theorem due to P. Rabinowitz. We will establish a new relationship between the location of the critical point and its Morse index. We apply the result to a semilinear Dirichlet problem with jumping nonlinearities and a Brézis-Nirenberg type problem, obtaining a sign-changing solution with information on Morse index and nodal domain.
