One of the most ambitious public health campaigns of our generation is the "Zero by 30," the global strategic initiative, of ending human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030. The initiative, led by the United Against Rabies collaboration, which links WHO, FAO, WOAH, and GARC, is a strategy that combines human and animal health measures to tackle rabies at its source (World Health Organization et al., 2018). However, the path to achieving "Zero by 30" is far from straightforward as we approach 2030. Despite the progress made, significant gaps remain in vaccination, surveillance, access to post-exposure treatment, and sustained funding.
