Early amiodarone resolves frequent ventricular premature complexes in a neonate with RVOT aneurysm.
Why the study?
Literature on congenital right ventricular outflow tract aneurysms detected antenatally and their potential to cause arrhythmias in early life is limited.
Case Report (n=1)
This case highlights the potential for antenatally detected congenital right ventricular outflow tract aneurysms to cause neonatal ventricular arrhythmias that can be successfully managed with amiodarone.
May support amiodarone for this rare arrhythmia; hypothesis-generating and should not change practice.
A large right ventricular outflow tract aneurysm in a fetus was incidentally detected during a routine third-trimester ultrasound of a 30-year-old pregnant woman. The pregnancy itself was otherwise uneventful, and the infant was delivered at term. Postnatal echocardiography confirmed the presence of the right ventricular outflow tract aneurysm. Initially, the neonate was stable; however, he developed frequent ventricular premature complexes, with electrocardiographic features indicating a right ventricular outflow tract origin. Early initiation of amiodarone therapy led to a prompt resolution of the arrhythmia. The infant remained stable and was discharged with plans for close follow-up. This case adds to the limited literature on congenital right ventricular outflow tract aneurysms detected antenatally and provides valuable insight into their potential to cause arrhythmias in early life.

Chawla et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Congenital right ventricular outflow tract aneurysm with neonatal ventricular arrhythmia (n=1). Amiodarone was evaluated on Resolution of ventricular premature complexes. Early amiodarone therapy promptly resolved frequent ventricular premature complexes in 1 neonate with an antenatally detected right ventricular outflow tract aneurysm.
