This workshop was organized to identify strategies for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under a changing climate, with a focus on building resilience and promoting sustainable water management in Ethiopia. The workshop format combined academic presentations, group discussions, and a field excursion to a botanic reserve park showcasing successful SDG interventions. A carefully selected group of DAAD Alumni, representing diverse academic disciplines, professional levels (ranging from professors to undergraduates), and geographic regions across the country, convened for a two-day intensive session. Participants drew on their experiences and local realities to deliberate on five thematic areas identified through in-depth literature review and consultations with academic mentors. Key outcomes include eight strategic recommendations: (1) strengthening climate-resilient water storage and management; (2) transforming agriculture through efficient water use and climate-smart practices; (3) expanding renewable energy integration; (4) empowering communities and local innovations; (5) strengthening integrated policies and institutional coordination; (6) enhancing data and climate information services; (7) unlocking climate finance and carbon markets; and (8) protecting ecosystems through nature-based solutions. These outputs offer actionable strategies for policymakers and practitioners to build climate resilience and accelerate SDG progress in Ethiopia and across East Africa.
