A steady‐state elastoplastic finite element method for the rolling process is proposed, which is based on a steady‐state formulation incorporating finite deformation theory with a static explicit method. It enables an accurate and robust analysis of the rolling process at a low computational cost, achieved by adopting a steady‐state formulation and a static explicit method for stress integration. The basic mathematical formulation of the proposed analytical method is described first, and its application to the simulation of strip‐rolling is presented with several different thickness reductions ranging from a skin pass to approximately 30%. Through this investigation, it is clear that the proposed method can analyze the 2D elastoplastic deformation characteristics of a strip under rolling, suggesting that the proposed theoretical framework is an effective and robust method for high‐precision rolling analysis.
