Prostoma clepsinoides Dugès, 1828 is reported from Hachijo-jima Island, Tokyo, Japan, based on a mitochondrial COI barcode sequence from one freshwater specimen. The specimen was collected from a spring-fed stream and grouped with published sequences currently assigned to P. clepsinoides . To our knowledge, this is the first published record of Prostoma from Hachijo-jima Island. No morphological voucher specimen was retained because the entire specimen was used for DNA extraction.
