Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has revolutionised diabetes management by providing real-time glucose data, and is standard care in many countries for type 1 diabetes (T1D).1 CGM systems use subcutaneous sensors with electrochemical glucose-oxidase technology to measure interstitial glucose concentration. The three leading manufacturers – Dexcom, MiniMed, and Abbott Diabetes Care – produce CGM sensors that differ in factory calibration algorithms, sensor lifespan and blood glucose-to-interstitial fluid glucose lag time, among other specifications.2
