This study aims to examine the role of the community in the development of ecotourism in Melung Tourism Village, Kedungbanteng District, Banyumas Regency. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method using a literature review approach. Data were gathered from scientific journal articles, previous research findings, and other written sources relevant to ecotourism development and community empowerment. The findings indicate that the community plays a crucial role in managing tourism potential, providing local services and products, and preserving the environment and culture. Ecotourism development also requires collaboration among the community, the village government, the village-owned enterprise, (BUMDes), the tourism awareness group (pokdarwis), and other stakeholders. Factors driving community participation include the potential of natural resources, institutional support, and opportunities for income generation. Conversely, inhibiting factors include limited human resource skills, minimal community influence in decision-making, constraints in budget and infrastructure, and the need to strengthen institutional capacity. Therefore, community empowerment through training, mentoring, institutional strengthening, and the involvement of residents in decision making is essential to support sustainable ecotourism development.
