The monoclinic‐to‐tetragonal phase transformation in LaNbO 4 has been investigated by X‐ray diffraction and dilatometry. Based on the experimental results and theoretical concerns (Landau theory and thermodynamics), it is suggested that this transformation is second order in nature.
