In 21 patients the frequency of hepatic coma secondary to metastatic liver disease was 7.5% in breast carcinoma, 6.6% in gastric carcinoma, and 6.4% in colon carcinoma. Hepatic coma was not recognized clinically in 11 of 21 patients. Five of these patients were treated with hepatic radiation and five patients with 5-fluorouracil. Hepatic coma secondary to metastatic liver disease may be more frequent than previously recognized.
