How can democratic institutions and actors counteract illiberal attempts to dismantle gender equality rights and protections? This article bridges the current gap between scholarship on democratic resilience and scholarship on gender by bringing them into dialogue with each other. We develop the concept of gendered democratic resilience to offer a more nuanced understanding of democratic resilience from a gendered perspective. We then elaborate a typology of gendered democratic resilience and substantiate it empirically by means of examining cases of resilience in several post-communist countries during the period 2010-2025: Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania and Latvia.
