SUMMARY Congenital edema was encountered in 7 Bulldog pups recovered at cesarean section from 5 bitches in 4 kennels. The maximal number of edematous pups in any 1 litter was 2. Pathologic findings consisted of generalized subcutaneous edema and fluid accumulation in abdominal and thoracic cavities. The livers consistently had foci of necrosis and subcapsular calcification. Congestion of blood vessels and dilatation of lymph vessels were other findings. The frequent occurrence of this anomaly in 4 kennels indicated that the cause was genetic.
