The transformation of transport systems in the 21st century is a technological, social and environmental challenge. The development of the next-generation’s transport strategy cannot be limited to infrastructure developments but requires a systemic approach that takes into account sustainability, transport safety, resilience, digitalization and changing social needs. The aim of our research is to identify the main directions and key factors of a future transport strategy. The research points out that the most important areas determining the operation of the transport system include the prioritization of sustainable and multimodal mobility solutions and increasing transport safety. Based on the results, the need for a complex, multi-sectoral approach emerges that addresses sustainability and transport safety within a unified strategic framework, thus contributing to the implementation of a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly transport system by 2050.
