At the Tanzania Health Summit, the International Network for Advancing Science and Policy (INASP) and the Africa Public Health Foundation (APHF), in collaboration with the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), convened a dedicated session to situate discussions on Africa’s pharmaceutical ambitions and workforce needs within a national and East African policy conversation. The session was introduced and moderated by Jon Harle (INASP), with opening remarks from Dr Ambrose Talisuna (APHF). Panelists included Ondari Mogeni (IVI), Shemina Somji (Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association of Tanzania (PMAT) and Cure Afya Pharma), and Dr Elirehema Mfinanga and Mr David Walusimbi (AUDA-NEPAD). Ms Judy Mbowa (APHF) provided closing remarks. This note summarises the key themes from the session including: the practical skills gap, training models for industry-aligned learning, vaccine manufacturing and technology transfer and enabling local firms to compete.
