This article presents a quantitative geodiversity assessment of Rio de Janeiro State using spatial analysis methods applying hexagonal grids and cartographic processing at multiple resolutions. Geodiversity is the variability, relationships, and assemblages of geological, geomorphological, pedological, and hydrological components and processes. It is fundamental in natural sciences, as it supports biodiversity and society by delivering ecosystem services and shaping the natural and cultural environments. Estimating and quantifying its value is imperative for effectively managing land use. Our evaluation’s resulting maps identified priority areas for geoconservation, particularly in the Northern Fluminense region, the Serrana and Northern zones of the Metropolitan Region, and the Médio Paraíba region. The Northern Fluminense area stands out for its alarming lack of protected areas. The findings suggest that the adopted quantitative approach enhances the understanding of geodiversity’s spatial patterns and provides strategic input for the development of public policies for land management and geoconservation in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
