Static recrystallization (SRX) behavior in copper tricrystal deformed in tension to ε = 0.2 in advance was investigated at 673 K. Nucleation occurred preferentially and frequently at grain boundaries accompanied by grain-boundary migration (GBM), but not at triple junctions (TJs). It is suggested, therefore, the GBM plays an important role for the SRX nucleation. Because TJs seemed to be stabilized, their thermally stable nature may interfere the SRX nucleation at TJs. Most of the nucleated grains were twins. These observations would imply the essential nucleation mechanism of SRX in polycrystalline copper.
