INTRODUCTION: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children represents a significant and growing global health burden. This study aims to report the short- and mid-term outcomes of hemodialysis vascular access in pediatric patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted to assess outcomes in pediatric patients with various types of hemodialysis access. This prospective cohort study included all consecutive pediatric patients with ESRD who presented to the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department at a tertiary hospital from October 2022 to October 2023. RESULTS: The study included 50 pediatric patients, with a mean age of 10.5 ± 5.7 years. The cohort was predominantly female 35 (70%), while males accounted for 15 (30%) The overall technical success rate remained high at 45 (90%). The failure rate was 5 (10%). CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate that pediatric arteriovenous fistulas (predominantly autogenous), when carefully planned and executed, can achieve high primary success and patency rates, with manageable complications in children with end-stage renal disease.
