Why do some people feel intellectually superior without acquiring the knowledge or producing the evidence needed to support that confidence? This theoretical article examines a paradox: people who proudly question conventional wisdom may not question their own thinking. By reading established knowledge and external criticism as signs of conformity, they may develop a sense of intellectual superiority that can withstand disagreement and disengagement from others. The article proposes an integrative process model of how this pattern can develop and reinforce itself through everyday interactions, together with four propositions, falsification conditions, and research designs.
