This study examines early tensile strain localization in commercial C17200 beryllium copper using tensile testing, digital image correlation and fast Fourier transform-based crystal plasticity simulations. Surface measurements on one specimen revealed an inclined localization band after yielding. A synthetic polycrystalline model calibrated to the macroscopic tensile response also developed inclined plastic-strain paths. Within the model, individual orientation descriptors showed limited linear correlations with grain-level stress, while high plastic strain did not consistently coincide with high stress or intragranular misorientation. These findings highlight the value of assessing local deformation alongside macroscopic tensile properties. The experimental-model comparison remains qualitative and does not independently validate the simulated local fields in the tested microstructure.
