Missionary activities have shaped societies in many parts of the world. Through their work, missionaries have spread religious teachings and, in some places, helped establish schools, hospitals, and other community services. Their influence, however, has not always been positive. In certain historical settings, missionary work was linked to colonial expansion and pressure on local cultures and beliefs. This paper looks at the historical development of missionary activities and considers their effects on education, healthcare, culture, and society. It argues that the subject needs to be examined from more than one point of view, including the experiences of the communities involved.
