PROBLEMS IN ENGLISH COMMUNICATION AMONG RURALENGLISH-MEDIUM SCHOOL STUDENTS IN INDIA: CHALLENGES,CONTRIBUTING FACTORS, AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONSAuthor: Aasif Ansari (Department of Commerce, Class 12th Satyam International School, Zamania)AbstractEnglish communication skills play an important role in students’ academic progress, confidence, and future career opportunities. However, many students studying in rural English-medium schools face difficulties in communicating effectively in English. These difficulties may include limited vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, lack of confidence, and insufficient opportunities to practise English in everyday life. This research paper examines the challenges experienced by rural English-medium school students in India and explores the factors that may contribute to these difficulties. Preliminary primary data observations identified four major problems: lack of knowledge of English word meanings, fear of speaking in public, limited English-speaking environments, and difficulty speaking English despite being able to understand it. Among these observations, limited knowledge of word meanings appeared to be the most common difficulty. The paper discusses these preliminary findings and suggests possible strategies to improve students’ English communication skills. Further systematic data analysis is required to determine how widely these challenges occur among rural students.
