The increasing depletion of fossil fuels and their detrimental environmental impact have accelerated the search for sustainable and renewable energy sources. Biochar, a form of biomass energy produced through pyrolysis, offers a promising solution due to its environmental and sustainability benefits. This study employs bibliometric analysis to evaluate research trends and contributions in the field of biochar, focusing on “biochar,” “biochar yield,” and “biochar production” from 2020 to 2024. Using data from the Web of Science (WOS) database and VOSviewer software, we analyzed publication patterns, citation networks, authorship collaborations, and keyword co-occurrences. Our findings highlight key authors, influential publications, and active institutions, as well as emerging research themes and collaborative networks. The study underscores the pivotal role of biochar in carbon sequestration, soil enhancement, waste management, and as a renewable energy source. By identifying the existing research themes and potential areas for collaboration, this analysis provides valuable insights for advancing biochar research and its application in addressing global sustainability challenges.
