This work proposes a reading of time not as one more dimension of space, but as a process with an update frequency of a substrate. Starting from the variability of time with velocity and gravity, it is argued that time is a process with a rate, and that the speed of light c expresses the rhythm of that refresh. From there, two cases that share the same structure are analyzed: the photon, which at speed c accumulates no temporal succession; and quantum entanglement, which shows correlations without signal transmission in temporal succession. The central thesis is that the substrate is, in its base condition, atemporal, and that temporal succession is an update layer that enables change without eliminating that base simultaneity.
