BACKGROUND: Aesthetic treatment paradigms often target the female face. Applying these patterns to men without accounting for sex-specific facial features and concerns may lead to suboptimal outcomes. METHODS: The peer-reviewed literature on dermal filler treatment in men was evaluated, with emphasis on filler selection and placement. RESULTS: Unique features of male facial anatomy influence desired aesthetic outcomes. CONCLUSION: Optimal dermal filler treatment in men requires an understanding of sex-specific facial anatomy, customized treatment plans, appropriate filler selection, and adequate volume. Additional research is needed to refine evidence-based recommendations.
