LONTARA workplace empowerment program achieves 100% blood pressure monitor adoption at one month.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular disease is associated with modifiable risk factors, and the workplace can support preventive health behaviors through employee empowerment and environmental support. This program aimed to implement the LONTARA model as an employee empowerment strategy for health self-management and cardiovascular risk mitigation.
Does the LONTARA workplace-based empowerment model improve cardiovascular health knowledge, self-monitoring skills, and adoption of preventive behaviors in office employees?

This workplace community service program demonstrated that the multicomponent LONTARA empowerment model was well-accepted and facilitated early adoption of self-directed blood pressure monitoring and micro-break stretching among participating office employees.
Cardiovascular disease is associated with modifiable risk factors, including sedentary behavior, physical inactivity, unhealthy lifestyle, stress, and elevated blood pressure. The workplace supports preventive health behaviors through empowerment and environmental support. This community service program aimed to implement the LONTARA model as an employee empowerment strategy for health self-management and cardiovascular risk mitigation. The program was conducted on May 26, 2026, at the Department of Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land Affairs of South Sulawesi Province, involving 30 employees. The intervention included cardiovascular health education, blood pressure monitoring training, the Appa’inga’ Health Control Card, micro-break stretching, and Longevity Nudge reminders. Evaluation included knowledge assessment, blood pressure monitoring, and one-month follow-up. Four respondents participated. All used the Appa’inga’ Health Control Card and blood pressure monitor. Among them, 75% performed micro-break stretching 1–2 times weekly, 25% almost daily, and 75% monitored blood pressure regularly. All reported positive responses on cardiovascular awareness, risk factors, benefits, feasibility, and continuation. LONTARA showed acceptance and early adoption of healthy behaviors. Larger samples and longer follow-up are needed

Azizah et al. (2026) studied Cardiovascular disease risk in office workers (n=30). LONTARA Model (workplace cardiovascular health education, self-monitoring blood pressure training, Appa'inga' Health Control Card, micro-break stretching, and Longevity Nudge visual reminders) vs. Pre-intervention baseline (single-arm pre-post evaluation) was evaluated on Cardiovascular health knowledge score (0-100 scale) among matched pre- and post-test participants (n=8) (MD -6.25). The LONTARA workplace empowerment program achieved 100% adoption of blood pressure monitors and 75% weekly micro-break stretching among 1-month follow-up respondents (n=4).
