Key result
Isi Piringku" nutrition education improves heart disease prevention knowledge scores by ~10 points.
Why the study?
Participants in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) face a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, necessitating appropriate and sustainable health education on healthy eating patterns for heart disease prevention.
Does nutrition education based on the "My Plate" concept improve knowledge regarding heart disease prevention in Prolanis participants?
Does nutrition education based on the "My Plate" concept improve knowledge regarding heart disease prevention in Prolanis participants?
A community-based, participatory nutrition education intervention using the "Isi Piringku" (My Plate) concept significantly improved short-term knowledge regarding heart disease prevention among high-risk elderly Prolanis participants in Indonesia.
Short-term knowledge gains from plate-based education; leaves open effects on prevention behaviors or outcomes in Prolanis programs.
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths through behavioral changes, especially the adoption of a healthy eating pattern. The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) group has a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, so appropriate and sustainable health education is needed. This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge of Prolanis participants regarding heart disease prevention through nutrition education based on the "My Plate" concept. The community service activity employs an educational-participatory approach with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The activity was conducted on May 9, 2026, in the working area of Puskesmas Kampung Baru, Banggai Regency, involving 34 Prolanis participants. The intervention was carried out through health education using interactive lecture methods, discussions, leaflet media, and demonstrations of healthy eating patterns based on the "My Plate" concept. Evaluation was conducted by comparing participants' knowledge scores before and after the education using a paired t-test. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 68.4 before the education to 78.6 after the education. The paired t-test analysis indicated a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.001). Nutrition education based on "My Plate" through an educative-participative approach is effective in increasing Prolanis participants' knowledge about heart disease prevention. Community-based health education activities need to be conducted continuously as a promotive and preventive effort against non-communicable diseases.

Wijianto et al. (2026) studied Cardiovascular disease risk / Chronic disease management (Prolanis) (n=34). Nutrition education based on the 'Isi Piringku' (My Plate) concept using interactive lectures, discussions, leaflets, and menu demonstrations vs. Pre-intervention baseline (one-group pre-test post-test) was evaluated on Heart disease prevention and healthy diet knowledge score (MD 10.2, p=<0.001). "Isi Piringku" nutrition education significantly increased mean heart disease prevention knowledge scores from 68.4 to 78.6 (MD 10.2, p<0.001) among Prolanis participants.
