Key result
Neck artery anatomical variability is linearly linked to LVEF in patients with vascular wall changes.
Why the study?
The influence and significance of anatomical variability of the main arteries of the neck on hemodynamic parameters assessed by echocardiography and Doppler ultrasonography warranted evaluation.
Observational (n=248)
Anatomical variability of the carotid arteries in the bifurcation area influences hemodynamic parameters and left ventricular ejection fraction, which may aid in developing personalized cardiovascular diagnostic and predictive methods.
Aim–to significance of anatomical variability the main arteries of the neck, analyzing hemodynamic parameters and results of echocardiography and Dopplerography. Material and methods. The data of echocardiography and Dopplerography of the neck vessels of 248 people were studied. Signs of atherosclerotic changes, volume velocity indicators at the level of the main arteries of the neck, and echocardiography data (left ventricular ejection fraction and stroke volume) were evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel tools, SPSS Statistics 20 (IBM, USA), and Statistica 10 distribution diagrams (StatSoft, USA). Results. The predominance of typical variants of the relative position of vessels on the left for all groups. The type "B" was noted in the diagnosis of changes in the vascular wall on the right, reaching 26% - 30%. As a result for the target value of the left ventricular ejection fraction according to Teicholz, signs of a linear relationship with age, gender, volume velocity of blood flow at the level of the common carotid artery on the right and the type of relative position of vessels on the left were revealed. Conclusions. A significant feature was small difference in values reflecting hemodynamic parameters among men and women, depending on the state of the vascular network during Dopplerography. The information obtained makes it possible to complement the possibilities of developing personalized methods for diagnosing and predicting the development of diseases of the cardiovascular system, taking into account the individual characteristics of the mutual position of the carotid arteries in the bifurcation area.

Moshkin et al. (2026) conducted an observational in Atherosclerotic vascular changes of the neck arteries (n=248). Anatomical variability of the main arteries of the neck vs. Typical variants of relative vessel position was evaluated on Hemodynamic parameters (left ventricular ejection fraction, stroke volume, and blood flow volume velocity) and vascular wall changes. Anatomical variability of neck arteries showed a linear relationship with LVEF, with type 'B' position observed in 26%-30% of patients with right vascular wall changes.
