Key result
Community-based blood pressure screening identified prehypertension in 66.7% and hypertension in 19.3% of productive-age adults in Panunggul Village, leaving only 14.0% with normal blood pressure.
Why the study?
Prehypertension is generally asymptomatic but carries increased cardiovascular risk and potential progression to hypertension without early intervention, motivating efforts to detect and map its prevalence among productive-age residents in Panunggul Village.

This community screening revealed a high undetected burden of prehypertension (66.7%) and hypertension (19.3%) among productive-age rural adults in Indonesia, underscoring the urgent need to expand routine blood pressure screening and lifestyle education to younger working populations.
Prehypertension is an intermediate stage that is generally asymptomatic, but has been associated with an increased cardiovascular risk and has the potential to develop into hypertension if not intervened early. This community service activity aims to detect early and map the prevalence of prehypertension in the productive age group in Panunggul Village. The activity is designed as a community-based health screening with a promotive and preventive approach using a descriptive observational design. A total of 57 residents aged 20–55 years participated through a total sampling technique on participants who met the inclusion criteria. Blood pressure measurement was carried out twice in a sitting position using a validated digital sphygmomanometer, followed by structured education on risk factor control. Data were analyzed descriptively in the form of frequency and percentage distributions. The results showed that 66.7% were in the prehypertension category, 15.8% were degree 1 hypertension, 3.5% were degree 2 hypertension, and only 14.0% had normal blood pressure. These findings show that the high burden of prehypertension has not been detected at the productive age, so routine screening, continuous education, and strengthening of village cadres-based PTM Posbindu are urgent needs

Wahidin et al. (2026) conducted a cross-sectional in Prehypertension and hypertension (n=57). Community-based blood pressure screening was evaluated on Prevalence of prehypertension (systolic blood pressure 120-139 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure 80-89 mmHg). Community-based blood pressure screening identified prehypertension in 66.7% and hypertension in 19.3% of productive-age adults in Panunggul Village, leaving only 14.0% with normal blood pressure.
