We describe a new genus and species of achilid planthopper, Achilivaria laevidorsum gen. et sp. nov., from the mid‑Cretaceous Kachin amber deposits of Myanmar. This new taxon is assigned to the tribe Amphignomini based on the diagnostic absence of lateral carinae on the mesonotum, the presence of subantennal carinae on the genae, and no more than three lateral spines on the hind tibia. This discovery provides the second fossil record of Amphignomini from Kachin amber assemblages, and shows individual asymmetry in the number of hind tibial lateral spines and apical spines of the hind basitarsomere. Furthermore, we infer relationships amongst Amphignomini genera using morphological character state differences.Xingyu Lin [xingyulin666666@163.com], College of Life Sciences, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China.
