Voltage fluctuations are a common problem in rural electrical distribution networks, where long distribution lines, increased load demand, inadequate infrastructure, and unbalanced loading can affect the quality and reliability of the power supply. These fluctuations may damage electrical equipment, reduce the efficiency of electrical appliances, and interrupt agricultural, domestic, and small-scale industrial activities. This paper discusses the causes and effects of voltage fluctuations in rural areas and examines possible methods for controlling them. The proposed approach focuses on monitoring the supply voltage and using an overvoltage and undervoltage protection system to disconnect electrical loads when the voltage exceeds predefined safe limits. An Arduino-based monitoring and protection system can be used to measure voltage, identify abnormal conditions, and control a relay to protect connected equipment. Suitable voltage regulation techniques, distribution network improvements, and preventive maintenance can further improve power quality. The proposed approach aims to increase equipment safety, improve the reliability of rural electricity supply, and reduce losses caused by abnormal voltage conditions.
