Two facts about the strong sector are usually explained by different means: that the colour group is SU(3), and that quark electric charges come in units of one third. We show that within the G2 framework both follow from a single structure — the decomposition of the seven imaginary octonions into 3 + 3̄ + 1 under the subgroup fixing an octonionic direction. That subgroup is SU(3), and it is forced, not chosen: it is the unique stabiliser of an imaginary octonion, since G2 acts transitively on the six-sphere of such directions with G2/SU(3) = S⁶. The same three that appears as the dimension of the colour representation is the multiplicity that fixes the charge unit: quarks, being colour triplets, must carry one third of the lepton charge for the total over the three colours to balance. One object, the octonionic three, forces both the gauge group and the fractionalisation of charge. We give the argument and are explicit that the charge result is stated within the framework’s grand-unified normalisation rather than derived from it.
