The presence of structural violence in the tea gardens of India, particularly in Assam, is quite apparent. Tea is one of the oldest and largest industries of Assam and employs a substantial number of women workforces. This article examines the everyday experiences of these women living in the gardens, and their experiences of gender inequalities and violence. Many women have come to accept their circumstances as ‘normal’, while others exhibit resistance. The researchers have collected information from two gardens, namely Haroocharai and Socklatinga Tea Estates of Jorhat, supplemented by personal narratives collected from Cinnamara Tea Estate of Jorhat, Assam.
