Phasey bean (Macroptilium lathyroides) is a leguminous plant with considerable potential as a source of forage for livestock. Seed quality is an important factor in the successful cultivation of this species, as it determines the seed's ability to germinate and establish seedlings. This study aimed to evaluate the viability of phasey bean seeds collected from three different locations in Muaro Jambi Regency, namely Mestong, Sungai Gelam, and Maro Sebo Districts. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments consisting of seed origins from the three districts and six replications. The observed parameters included germination percentage and mean germination rate. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey’s test at the 5% significance level when significant effects were detected. The results showed that seed origin had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on germination percentage. Seeds from Maro Sebo District exhibited the highest germination percentage (70.83%), whereas seeds from Mestong and Sungai Gelam showed germination percentages of 48.33% and 46.67%, respectively. Tukey’s test indicated that Maro Sebo differed significantly from Mestong and Sungai Gelam, while no significant difference was found between Mestong and Sungai Gelam. In contrast, seed origin had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the mean germination rate. The highest mean germination rate was observed in seeds from Sungai Gelam (0.25), followed by Mestong (0.22) and Maro Sebo (0.20). It can be concluded that phasey bean seeds originating from Maro Sebo District possess better viability than those from Mestong and Sungai Gelam Districts. Differences in seed quality are likely associated with the environmental conditions affecting the growth of the mother plants, which influence seed development and maturation processes.
