Barneystrombus is a small central Indo-Pacific genus with two extant members. This paper introduces the first fossil record for that genus with Barneystrombus nigromaculus n. sp. from the Late Pliocene of Cimanggu, Java. Barneystrombus nigromaculus differs from extant taxa in its elongated form, lack of ventral lateral shoulder and flattened body whorl. The posterior outer lip of B. nigromaculus is angulate rather than quadrate which is typical of the extant taxa. The new species provides a deeper understanding of the radiation of the Barneystrombus, hitherto restricted to the northern Indo-Pacific, and provides the first record of its geological positioning.
