This study considers a system which fails when the time between two successive shocks is less than a critical time threshold (recovery time) δ or the magnitude of damage due to a shock is larger than the system’s threshold (strength) u. System reliability function after n shocks is obtained by considering the distributions of time between two successive shocks and magnitude of damages as independent exponential random variables. Assessment of reliability function is made with the data of life testing experiment. The cases of δ and u being random variables are also dealt with.
